How to play

  1. Look at how each number changes to become the next one. Is something added, taken away, or multiplied?
  2. Check your rule on every number in the row, not just the first two.
  3. Write the next number in the empty box.

What it exercises

Spotting a pattern, putting it into words, and testing a guess against every piece of evidence before trusting it. The harder rows mix two steps or two patterns at once.

Levels

  • Easy Adding or taking away the same amount, or doubling.
  • Medium Multiplying, square numbers, gaps that grow, two patterns taking turns.
  • Hard Two steps in a row, primes, cubes, and gaps that double.
