Cross-Sum Grids

Place 1 to 9 so every row and column works out. Print a fresh sheet with its answer key, or try one on screen.

How to play

  1. Use each number from 1 to 9 exactly once.
  2. Each row reads like a sum from left to right, and each column from top to bottom. Do the steps in order, not by the usual order of operations.
  3. Start with the row or column that has the fewest choices, like a small total or a ×.

What it exercises

Mental arithmetic with a purpose. You try a number, follow what it forces, and back up when it breaks a sum.

Levels

  • Easy Adding and subtracting, with some numbers filled in.
  • Medium Adding, subtracting and multiplying.
  • Hard All four operations and few or no numbers given.
