Cage Squares

A number grid with sums and products in outlined cages. Print a fresh sheet with its answer key, or try one on screen.

How to play

  1. In a 4 × 4 grid use 1 to 4, in a 5 × 5 grid use 1 to 5, and so on. No repeats in any row or column.
  2. A cage marked 7+ adds up to 7. A cage marked 2− has two numbers that differ by 2. 12× multiplies to 12. 3÷ means one number is 3 times the other.
  3. A cage with just one square tells you its number.

What it exercises

Arithmetic facts and logic at the same time. You list the ways a cage can work, then cross them off using the rows and columns.

Levels

  • Easy 4 × 4, adding and subtracting.
  • Medium 5 × 5, adding, subtracting and multiplying.
  • Hard 6 × 6, all four operations.
