The Story Method

Turn the list into one short, silly story in which each item causes the next.

Not started Jump to practice

The story method is the link method with a plot. Instead of separate pairs, one story moves from item to item.

Worked example: Worked example

Story for: frog, ladder, cloud, spoon, bell.
  1. A frog climbs a ladder up into a cloud.
  2. The cloud rains spoons.
  3. The spoons clang on a bell, and everyone wakes up.

Answer: Frog, ladder, cloud, spoon, bell.

Key idea

Each item causes the next: "so," "and then," "because." Keep the story short and test the list, not the story.

Common mistake

Remembering the story but not the items in order. After telling it, list the items alone.
