Learning a Poem Line by Line

Build up a poem cumulatively: learn line 1, then lines 1 and 2, then 1 to 3, always reciting from the start before adding.

Not started Jump to practice

A good way to learn verse is cumulative: each new line joins the lines before it.

RoundRecite
1Line 1
2Lines 1 and 2
3Lines 1 to 3
4Lines 1 to 4: the whole stanza

Key idea

Say from the start each round. The joins between lines get the most practice.

Worked example: Worked example

A stanza has 4 lines. With cumulative rounds, how many lines will you say in all?
  1. 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 = 10.

Answer: 10 lines.

Then space the stanza: recite it on days 1, 3, 7 and 21. Add a new stanza only when the old one is solid.

Practice

Pass with 3 right answers, the last 2 in a row. Each right answer earns 2 XP.
