Using Pegs for a List

With pegs you can recall a list in order, backward, or by position; ten pegs hold ten items.

Not started Jump to practice

Once your pegs are solid, a ten-item list takes only a few minutes to hang.

Key idea

One item per peg. To recall item 6, go straight to peg 6. To recall the whole list, run through the pegs in order.

Worked example: Worked example

You hung these on the rhyme pegs: 1 bun-map, 2 shoe-lamp, 3 tree-violin, 4 door-pizza, 5 hive-rope. What was item 4? What came after the lamp?
  1. Peg 4 is door; the door held pizza.
  2. The lamp was on peg 2; peg 3, tree, held the violin.

Answer: Pizza; the violin.

Why it works

Ten pegs cover ten items. For longer lists, use a journey (later in this course) or a bigger peg list such as the Major System's 00 to 99.
