Dates and Years

A year is four digits: two Major words in one image, tied to the event.

Dates are a natural job for the Major System. A four-digit year is two list words. Join them in one picture with the event.

Worked example: Worked example

The Declaration of Independence was adopted in 1776.
  1. 17: duck. 76: cage.
  2. Picture: a duck in a cage signing a huge scroll with a feather quill.

Answer: Duck + cage, signing the scroll.

Worked example: Another

Magna Carta was sealed in 1215.
  1. 12: tuna. 15: tail.
  2. Picture: a tuna using its tail to press a wax seal onto a long charter.

Answer: Tuna + tail, sealing the charter.

Key idea

Event + two pictures in one scene. Many people drop the leading 1 or 19 when the century is obvious and code only the last two digits.

Common mistake

Coding 1215 as "12" and "15" without the event. The picture must include the charter, or you will know a date but not what happened.

Practice

Pass with 3 right answers, the last 2 in a row. Each right answer earns 2 XP.
