A Code for Every Card

Before memorizing a deck you fix one image for each of the 52 cards, so seeing a card brings its image at once.

A deck of cards is 52 items in a random order: a classic memory challenge. The first step is a code: a fixed image for every card.

Many people build card codes from the Major System. One common way: the suit gives a first sound and the value gives a second, so each card becomes a word. Others simply pick a person for each card. Either works if it is fixed and well learned.

Key idea

52 cards need 52 images. Learn them as a peg list before you try a deck.
