Place and Walk

To recall, walk the route spot by spot; the spot's number tells you the item's position.

Not started Jump to practice

Once your images are placed, recalling is a walk. Start at spot 1 and move along the route. At each spot, look for the image and turn it back into the item.

A shopping list on a six-spot route. What is at spot 4?

Key idea

Because every spot has a number, the palace answers questions like "What was fourth?" and "What came after bread?" You can even walk it backward.

Worked example: Worked example

Your route: front door, mat, coat hook, mirror, stairs, sofa. You placed: milk, eggs, bread, apples, cheese, rice. What was the fourth item?
  1. Walk: 1 front door (milk), 2 mat (eggs), 3 coat hook (bread), 4 mirror.
  2. The mirror holds apples.

Answer: Apples.

Why it works

The route turns a hard question (what was fourth?) into an easy one (what is at the mirror?).

Common mistake

Skipping the walk at review time. Walk the full route each time; rebuild only the spots that come up blank.
