Pick the Next Review Day

Find the next review on the 1-3-7-21 schedule by asking which reviews are done and counting from the learning day.

Not started Jump to practice

Life is busy, so it helps to know how to find the next review quickly.

Key idea

1. Find the learning day (day 0). 2. See which of days 1, 3, 7, 21 are done. 3. Add the next number to the learning date.

Worked example: Worked example

Jada learned the Great Lakes on October 10. She reviewed on October 11 and October 13. When is her next review?
  1. Oct 11 is day 1. Oct 13 is day 3.
  2. Next is day 7.
  3. October 10 + 7 = October 17.

Answer: October 17.

Worked example: Crossing a month

Omar learned a list on the 25th of a 31-day month and has done days 1, 3 and 7. When is day 21?
  1. 25 + 21 = 46.
  2. 46 − 31 = 15.
  3. So it is the 15th of the next month.

Answer: The 15th of next month.

Why it works

Counting from the learning day keeps the gaps growing: 1 day, then 2 more, then 4 more, then 14 more.

Common mistake

Skipping a review and starting over. If you miss one, do it as soon as you can and carry on.

Practice

Pass with 3 right answers, the last 2 in a row. Each right answer earns 2 XP.
