Memory Games
Short games, each built on one technique from the infographic Remember It on Purpose. Play one, then notice the trick behind it: that is the part you keep.
Memory Palace BuilderPlace everyday things along a route through a drawn house, make each picture vivid, then walk the route and name what you left at every stop.
Chunk ItRemember a long number by splitting it into chunks of three or four. The number grows as you improve; famous years make the best chunks.
Story ChainLink each picture to the next with a silly little story, then tap them back in order. The link method, one link at a time.
Card PairsTurn over cards to match each picture with its word. Pairs you miss come back in the next round; pairs you know wait longer, like spaced review.
Daily Memory Warm-upFive minutes a day: questions from the memory challenge lists that are due for review, so spaced review happens on its own.
The technique in each game
- Memory Palace Builder: the memory palace (method of loci). A place you know holds things in order.
- Chunk It: chunking. A few meaningful groups beat many loose digits.
- Story Chain: the link method, a kind of mnemonic. Each picture leads to the next.
- Card Pairs: picture plus words, with spaced review. Two paths to the same memory, and misses come back sooner.
- Daily Memory Warm-up: retrieval and spacing. Your own lists, on schedule.
