Steps
You’ll need: grill or large heavy skillet, box grater, instant-read thermometer, spatula.
- Mix the turkey, grated onion, Worcestershire, panko, garlic powder, salt and pepper gently with your hands. The mixture will be soft.
- Shape into 4 patties about 3/4 inch thick with a dimple in the center. Wash your hands.
- Brush the grill grate or skillet with the oil and heat over medium. Cook the patties 6 to 7 minutes per side, until an instant-read thermometer in the center reads 165°F. Turkey needs a little more cooking than beef, so go by the thermometer.
- Add the cheese for the last minute and cover to melt. Toast the buns and build the burgers.
🌡 Safe temperaturesGround turkey or chicken 165°F. Check the thickest part with a food thermometer (USDA). More on food safety.
Make aheadShape the patties up to 1 day ahead and keep them covered in the fridge with wax paper between.
