ABC Patterns

Find what comes next in a pattern of three.

Not started Jump to practice

A pattern can have three different things: apple, banana, pear, apple, banana, pear. What comes after banana? Pear!

Apple, banana, pear … what comes next?

Key idea

In an ABC pattern, three things take turns in the same order.
For the grown-up: Build ABC patterns with three colors of blocks or three kinds of snacks. Sing a three-part movement song: touch head, shoulders, knees, again and again. Stop while it is still fun. Then go and play the real-life version.
  • Try it at home: Touch head, shoulders, knees, again.
  • Line up three colors of blocks.
  • Make a three-color paper chain.
