The animals are waiting in line at the door. The first one is right by the door. The last one is at the very end. Who is next?

Who is first? Who is last?

Key idea

First is at the front. Last is at the end. Next comes right after.
For the grown-up: Line up toys for a parade and ask who is first, next and last. Use these words through the day: “First we wash hands, next we eat, last we clean up.” Stop while it is still fun. Then go and play the real-life version.
  • Try it at home: Line up toys for a parade.
  • Say first, next and last as you get dressed.
  • Take turns being first in line.
