Pre-KCoins

Looking at Coins

Look at coins and count pennies.

Not started Jump to practice

Coins are small round pieces of money. The penny is copper-colored. The nickel, dime and quarter are silver. The quarter is the biggest!

A penny, a nickel, a dime and a quarter.

Key idea

Coins look different: different colors and different sizes.
For the grown-up: Look at real coins together, sort them by color and size, and count pennies into a jar. Small coins can be a choking hazard, so stay close and put them away after. A few problems on the screen is plenty. The real practice is with things you can touch.
  • Try it at home: Sort coins into piles that look alike.
  • Count pennies into a jar.
  • Play store with pennies and toys.
