Not started Jump to practice

Beside means right next to. Between means in the middle, with one on each side. The cat is between the dog and the bunny!

Who is between the dog and the bunny?

Key idea

Between means in the middle of two things.
For the grown-up: Sit between two stuffed animals. Put a spoon beside a cup. Ask your child to put a block between two others, then beside one. Keep screen time short: two or three problems, then play.
  • Try it at home: Sit between two pillows.
  • Put a toy beside your shoe.
  • Build a block row and ask what is between.
