Linear B typing helper

Type in transliteration and copy real Unicode signs into your notes, or paste signs to read them back. It works for Linear A too, with the conventional values.

How to type

  • Syllables joined by hyphens, words by spaces: a-ta-na-po-ti-ni-ja.
  • Special signs by their values with a number: a2 (ha), a3 (ai), pu2 (phu), ra2, ra3, ro2, ta2, and au, dwe, dwo, nwa, pte, twe, two.
  • Unread signs by their numbers: *18, *47.
  • Logograms by their scholarly names: VIR, MUL, EQU, OVISm, OVISf, GRA, OLE, VIN, AUR, AES, and vessels like *201VAS. Numbers as digits: 120. A | makes a word divider.
  • Linear A: switch the script; fractions are capital letters (J for one half) and the sign without a Linear B match is *301.

The signs are real Unicode characters, so they paste into any document. To see them, the reader needs a font with Linear B; this site uses its own, TRB Linear B, and others may see Noto Sans Linear B or Segoe UI Historic.
