The Palmer Method of Business Writing · Lesson 89 · Part 12: More capitals and reviews
84. Drills 110 and 111: X, Y, Z and a big review
Goal: Your child makes a small compact oval between two ruled lines and reviews X, Y and Z.
You'll need
- Wide-ruled lined paper (several sheets)
- A sharp pencil or a smooth gel pen
- The book open at today's page
- A watch, clock or phone timer that shows seconds (only for the optional speed check)
What's in the book
Lesson 89 is drill 110, a compact oval made between two ruled lines, with capitals X, Y and Z, and drill 111. A note after it says to spend one to two weeks reviewing all the essential work so far.
The lesson, step by step
A smaller oval
Drill 110 is the compact oval, now made between two ruled lines (one space) instead of two.
Make it between two ruled lines, carry the pen lightly and see how many you can make in one row, with one dip of ink.
With a pencil: how far can you go without stopping?
Look at the model
Open the book page. Look at drill 110 and drill 111: rows of capital X, Y and Z.
X, Y and Z
Two lines of each.
Optional speed target: X thirty-five, Y forty, Z fifty a minute.
Review work
At this point it would be a good plan to review all the essential work of the preceding lessons. From one to two weeks should be spent in such practice.
Plan the next week or two with your child: which letters need it most?
Gentle check
Bring out the first specimen again and compare.
Finish
Write "Zoe" or "Yes!"
Afterwards
One to two weeks of review, as the book suggests, using the review lessons (Lessons 39–43, 79, 87, 88) as a menu.
