The Palmer Method of Business Writing · Lesson 82 · Part 12: More capitals and reviews
77. Drill 98: the small loop beginning again
Goal: Your child makes the small loop beginning and sorts the twelve capitals that use it into their families.
You'll need
- Wide-ruled lined paper (several sheets)
- A sharp pencil or a smooth gel pen
- The book open at today's page
What's in the book
Lesson 82 is drill 98, the small loop beginning used in twelve business capitals, and notes comparing their main strokes.
The lesson, step by step
Warm up
About three minutes: compact ovals, then a line each of small o, small m and small l (drills 3, 11, 14 and 33).
Look at the model
Open the book page. Look at drill 98.
Turn it up-side-down and you will see that it is the inverted figure six.
The book says most pupils find it hard at first but like it once it is mastered.
Practice the beginning
Practice the first part shown at the left of the line: three lines.
The three families
Using the alphabet page, sort the twelve capitals with your child:
1. Main stroke curved a lot: F, Q, W, X, Z.
2. Main stroke straighter: H, K, M, N.
3. Main stroke a double curve: U, V, Y.
One of each family
Write one line of N, one of W and one of U, each starting with the small loop.
Gentle check and finish
Are the beginning loops small? Finish by writing "Uncle Ned".
