The Palmer Method of Business Writing · Lesson 68 · Part 10: Figures
63. Drill 83: figure 4
Goal: Your child makes figure 4 resting on the line, its last part reaching a little above the first.
You'll need
- Wide-ruled lined paper (several sheets)
- A sharp pencil or a smooth gel pen
- The book open at today's page
- A watch, clock or phone timer that shows seconds (only for the optional speed check)
What's in the book
Lesson 68 is drill 83, rows of figure 4.
The lesson, step by step
Warm up
About three minutes: compact ovals, then a line each of small o, small m and small l (drills 3, 11, 14 and 33).
Look at the model
Open the book page. Look at drill 83.
Four rests on the base line, and usually the last part extends above the first.
Rows of 4
Four lines, counting "one, two, three."
Optional speed target: sixty to seventy a minute.
Watch for
A 4 that looks like a 9 has its top closed; keep it open the way the book makes it.
Gentle check
Read a line of your child's 4's aloud. Any doubtful ones?
Finish
Write 44, 454 and 4,574.
