What's in the book

Lesson 65 is drill 80, an exercise followed by figure 3, which the author found the best way of teaching it.

The lesson, step by step

  1. Warm up

About three minutes: compact ovals, then a line each of small o, small m and small l (drills 3, 11, 14 and 33).

  2. Look at the model

Open the book page. Look at drill 80: a movement exercise, then 3's.

The motion produces the figure; learn this motion thoroughly.

  3. The exercise

Two lines of the exercise before the 3.

  4. Rows of 3

Four lines, counting "one, two, three" or "dot, two, three."

Optional speed target: seventy figures a minute.

  5. Gentle check

Are the two curves of the 3 about the same size?

  6. Finish

    Write 33, 323 and 3,232.
