What's in the book

Lesson 62 is drill 77, a figure drill, with a note that two weeks should go to figure practice.

The lesson, step by step

  1. Warm up

About three minutes: compact ovals, then a line each of small o, small m and small l (drills 3, 11, 14 and 33).

    Then one line of 1's.

  2. Look at the model

Open the book page. Look at drill 77. The book gives this lesson the drill only, and a note on the next page: two weeks should be spent on figures, with frequent reviews and most practice on the hardest ones.

  3. Practice the drill

Copy the figures in drill 77, a line of each, as small as the book's.

  4. Use the counts

Count out loud for each figure: "one, two, three" for 2, 3, 4 and 5, "one, two" for 6, 7 and 9, as in Lesson 61.

  5. Gentle check

Which figure is hardest? Mark it. It gets an extra line every day this week.

  6. Finish

Write your phone number or house number in small figures.
