What's in the book

Lesson 48 is a review of the last two lessons and drill 53, the words "hill", "hull" and "hilly".

The lesson, step by step

  1. Warm up

About three minutes: compact ovals, then a line each of small o, small m and small l (drills 3, 11, 14 and 33).

Then a line each of small h and y from Lesson 47.

  2. Look at the model

Open the book page. Look at drill 53: a line of "hill," a line of "hull" and a line of "hilly."

  3. Lines of words

    Two lines of each word.

Optional speed target: twenty or more of the first two words and sixteen or more of "hilly" a minute.

  4. Watch for

Guard against making h higher than l. All loop letters above the base should be the same length.

  5. Gentle check

Lay a ruler along the tops of the loops in one word. Do they all touch it?

  6. Finish

Write "hello" in your child's best hand.
