What's in the book

Lesson 45 is drill 47, small x, and drill 48, the word "sixes".

The lesson, step by step

  1. Warm up

About three minutes: compact ovals, then a line each of small o, small m and small l (drills 3, 11, 14 and 33).

  2. Look at the model

Open the book page. Look at drill 47. Small x is simple; study it closely before practicing. The crossing can go up or down.

  3. Rows of x

Three lines of x in groups of five. Leave the crossings until each group is done.

  4. Drill 48: sixes

In writing a word containing it, complete the word before crossing the letter. Make the crossing short.

    Three lines of "sixes."

  5. Gentle check

Are the crossings short and neat? Did your child finish each word first?

  6. Finish

    Write "box" and "fox".
