What's in the book

Lessons 39 to 43 share one short paragraph: at least five lessons here go to reviewing everything before. A note to teachers says they must judge which lessons need more review.

The lesson, step by step

  1. What the book says

At least five lessons at this point should be devoted to reviewing all the lessons that have gone before.

Use this guide five times, one day for each part below. Start every day with the usual warm-up: compact ovals, small o, m and l.

  2. Day 1: position and capitals

Look again at the Lesson 1 photographs and check the position. Then two lines each of capitals A, O, C, L, M and N.

  3. Day 2: the short letters

    A line each of o, m, n, i, u, e, a, c, r and s. Use the alphabet page from Lesson 13 to check shapes.

  4. Day 3: loops

A line each of l, d, g and q. Check loop lengths with a ruler: l four spaces, g three below.

  5. Day 4: words

Two lines each of Moon, Noon, Lanning, Lulling and error.

  6. Day 5: the specimen

Bring out the first specimen from Lesson 1. Your child writes the same things again: name and age, capitals, the specimen sentence. Lay the two side by side and talk about what has changed. Keep both.

Afterwards

The book leaves it to the teacher to decide what needs more review. Repeat any day that showed a weak spot.
