What's in the book

Lesson 25 has drills 26 and 27, rows of capital M and capital N.

The lesson, step by step

  1. Warm up

Three to five minutes: compact ovals (drill 3), a line of small o (drill 11) and a line of small m (drill 14). This is the book's daily opening from now on.

  2. Look at the model

Open the book page. Look at drills 26 and 27.

Study capitals M and N closely before trying to make them.

Compare their parts: slant, height and width. The finishing line of each drops below the base line.

  3. Capital M

Three lines of M, counting "1, 2, 3, 4". Drop the finishing line below the base and lift the pen while still moving.

Optional speed target: thirty M's a minute.

  4. Capital N

    Three lines of N, counting "1, 2, 3".

Optional speed target: forty N's a minute.

  5. Watch for

The small loop beginning, humps of M getting slightly shorter toward the end, and the same slant throughout.

  6. Gentle check and finish

Your child chooses one M and one N to circle. Finish by writing "Mom" or "Nan".
