What's in the book

Lesson 18 is drill 16, small m in groups of four, three groups to a line, then the same with small n.

The lesson, step by step

  1. Warm up

Three to five minutes: compact ovals (drill 3), a line of small o (drill 11) and a line of small m (drill 14). This is the book's daily opening from now on.

  2. Look at the model

Open the book page. Look at drill 16: three groups of four m's on each line, then the paper turned and groups of n.

  3. Rows of m

Five or more rows of m in groups of four, three groups to a line.

  4. Rows of n

Turn to a fresh part of the page and make five rows of n in groups.

  5. Compare often

Make frequent comparisons with the drill as you practice.

After each row, your child looks at the book and then at their row before starting the next.

  6. Gentle check and finish

Is the last row better than the first? Say which thing improved. Finish by writing "man" or "nine" (a and i come soon; just copy them as best you can).
