The Palmer Method of Business Writing · Lesson 125 · Part 14: Sentences and line-writing
120. Drills 148 and 149: sentences with M and N
Goal: Your child writes the M and N sentences, a page or half page of each.
You'll need
- Wide-ruled lined paper (several sheets)
- A sharp pencil or a smooth gel pen
- The book open at today's page
What's in the book
Lesson 125 has two copies: drill 148, "Mills and Milligan are good millers," and drill 149, "Nine months after date I promise to pay."
The lesson, step by step
Warm up
Two or three minutes of your usual movement drills: compact ovals, then a line each of small o, m and l.
Then a line each of capital M and N.
Look at the model
Open the book page. Look at drills 148 and 149.
Drill 148
Write "Mills and Milligan are good millers." a few times word by word, then half a page of the whole line.
Drill 149
Then "Nine months after date I promise to pay." the same way. These words are the opening of a promissory note, a written promise to pay a sum of money by a set date; business writers wrote them often.
Gentle check
Compare the capitals M and N in the sentences with the ones from the warm-up. Did they stay as good?
Finish
Date the page and write one last careful copy of each sentence.
