What's in the book

Lesson 115 is drill 138, the line "Specimens of my business penmanship", to be practiced word by word and then as a full page.

The lesson, step by step

  1. Warm up

Two or three minutes of your usual movement drills: compact ovals, then a line each of small o, m and l.

The book says: Begin this lesson with your usual movement drills.

  2. Look at the model

Open the book page. Look at drill 138: "Specimens of my business penmanship," written twice.

  3. Word by word

First practice the line in sections, word by word: a line of "Specimens," a line of "business," a line of "penmanship."

  4. A full page

Then a page of the complete line (half a page for a young child).

  5. Judge it

Height, spacing, and slant should receive special attention.

Check each one separately: all the small letters the same height? Even gaps? The same lean?

  6. Finish

Your child signs and dates the page and keeps it with the first specimen.
