The Palmer Method of Business Writing · Lesson 114 · Part 14: Sentences and line-writing
109. Drill 137: a sentence with initials
Goal: Your child practices a sentence word by word, then writes it whole.
You'll need
- Wide-ruled lined paper (several sheets)
- A sharp pencil or a smooth gel pen
- The book open at today's page
What's in the book
Lesson 114 is drill 137, the sentence "A B Collins owns the mill on the hill", practiced the same way as drill 136.
The lesson, step by step
Warm up
Two or three minutes of your usual movement drills: compact ovals, then a line each of small o, m and l.
Look at the model
Open the book page. Look at drill 137: "A B Collins owns the mill on the hill."
The same method of practice should be followed in this drill as in the preceding one.
The capitals
A line each of capitals A, B and C.
Word by word
A line each of "Collins," "owns," "mill" and "hill."
The whole sentence
Write the whole sentence several times. Keep the spaces between words even.
Gentle check and finish
Ask your child which word is best and which needs another line. Finish with one more careful copy.
