What's in the book

The pairs continue: sum and some, sun and son, stair and stare, sole and soul, sea and see, sent, cent and scent, their and there, too and two, and at the top of the next page wait and weight, week and weak, wood and would.

The lesson, step by step

  1. Review

Play the card game from last time with five pairs.

  2. Read the pairs

Read the pairs with their meanings. Some of them:

    sun, the fountain of light.

    son, a male child.

    their, belonging to them.

    there, in this place.

  3. The everyday ones

These pairs matter most for writing: their and there, two and too, sea and see, sun and son, week and weak, wood and would. Make a card for each.

  4. Spell aloud

You say the meaning, your child spells the word: "belonging to them" (t-h-e-i-r), "in that place" (t-h-e-r-e), "the number after one" (t-w-o), "also" (t-o-o).

  5. Dictation

Dictate: "Their dog is there." "I have two cats, too." "I see the sea." "In a week I will be strong, not weak."

  6. Wrap up

Your child writes a silly sentence that uses one whole pair.
