What's in the book

Lesson 105 gives a plan for describing an apple and a general plan for other plant products (hay, starch, flour, paper and others), then asks for a composition on My Last Vacation.

The lesson, step by step

  1. Review

Ask your child to parse "quickly" in "She ran quickly."

  2. The plan

The book's plan for an apple: Form; Parts (peel, pulp, etc.); Color; Taste; Different kinds; Uses; how cider is made; Where found.

  3. Look and taste

Cut an apple. Look at the peel, pulp, core and seeds. Taste it. Talk about each point of the plan.

  4. Write

Write a paragraph for each point.

  5. Another product

    The book's general plan asks:

What part of the plant growth is it?

How procured and prepared for food or manufacture?

Choose one from the list (hay, straw, flour, paper, vinegar, an orange, a strawberry) for another day.

  6. Use it today

The book asks for the first two sentences of a composition on My Last Vacation, with the verbs and adverbs parsed. Try it out loud at dinner.
