What's in the book

Lesson 99 is a reading on sugar, how it is obtained from plants and refined, to read and reproduce.

The lesson, step by step

  1. Review

Ask: What are the eight steps for parsing a verb?

  2. Read it

    The book says:

Read the following description a number of times, then reproduce it from memory:

Read "Sugar" aloud, then let your child read it twice.

  3. Outline

Close the book. List the main points in order together: where sugar comes from, how it is made, how it is refined.

  4. Write

Your child writes the description from the outline in their own words.

  5. Compare

Open the book and compare. Did they keep the order? What was left out?

  6. Use it today

Look at a sugar package. Does it say what plant it came from?
