What's in the book

Page 118 has review questions and sentences for telling mode, tense, person and number. Lesson 95 defines regular and irregular verbs, and Lesson 96 defective and redundant verbs, with a model and fourteen sentences to correct.

The lesson, step by step

  1. Review

    Ask for the progressive form of "read" in the past tense.

  2. Regular and irregular

    Read:

    A Regular Verb forms its past indicative and perfect participle by adding d or ed to the present indicative;

    Saylove, loved, loved. Irregular verbs don't follow this: go, went, gone. The Appendix lists them.

  3. Defective and redundant

    Read:

    Defective Verbs are those which want some of the principal parts.

    Redundant Verbs are those which have more than one form for their past tense and perfect participle;

  4. Use the model

    The book's model:

    The man throwed a stone.

    The book says throwed should be threw, the past indicative of throw.

  5. Correct the sentences

    Correct some from the page:

    He has brung some snow into the school-house.

    The cars have ran off the track.

    The plastering has fell from the ceiling.

  6. Mode, tense, person, number

    From page 118, do a few:

    They have seen.

    If he go.

    America was discovered.

  7. Use it today

    The book says to correct mistakes with irregular verbs that you notice in conversation. Listen for one today.
