What's in the book

Tables only: circular measure (degrees), paper (quires and reams), how books are folded (folio, quarto, octavo), and miscellaneous tables such as 12 things make 1 dozen, 12 dozen make 1 gross, 20 things make 1 score, 6 feet make 1 fathom, 4 inches make 1 hand.

The lesson, step by step

  1. Useful ones

Dozen and gross are still used. A score is 20: "Four score and seven years ago" means 87.

  2. Fun ones

Horses are measured in hands; sea depth in fathoms. Look up how tall a horse is in hands.

Afterwards

Optional.
