You'll need

  • A calendar and a clock

What's in the book

Tables only, no problems: apothecaries' weight, cubic measure (with a note that a pile of wood 8 feet long, 4 wide and 4 high is a cord), time, and the days in each month.

The lesson, step by step

  1. Time

Read the time table: 60 seconds, 60 minutes, 24 hours, 7 days. Use a real clock.

  2. The months

Learn the days in each month. You can teach the rhyme "Thirty days hath September", or count on your knuckles.

  3. The rest

The apothecaries' and cubic tables can be read once for interest and skipped.

Afterwards

Ask time questions through the week: how many minutes until lunch?
