Goal: Your child works out how many of one thing pay for another (barter).

What's in the book

Problems such as "James bought 3 lemons, at 2 cents each, and paid for them with oranges, at 3 cents each: how many oranges did it take?"

The lesson, step by step

  1. Two steps

    First find the cost (3 lemons at 2 cents = 6 cents), then how many oranges make 6 cents (6 ÷ 3 = 2).

  2. Trade game

    Price some toys and let your child pay for one with others.

  3. Work through the page

    Do the problems.

Talk about trading before money: why was money invented?
