  • A slate, small whiteboard or paper and pencil

What's in the book

Problems such as "Henry had 25 cents: he spent 4 cents for a top, and 6 cents for a kite: how many cents has he left?" and "Charles is 4 years old, and his father is 32 years old: in how many years will Charles be as old as his father is now?"

The lesson, step by step

  1. Play shop with change

    Your child has 25 cents and buys two things. How much is left? Count the change back.

  2. Ages

    Talk through Charles and his father: from 4 to 32 is 28 years.

  3. Work through the page

    Do the rest of the problems.

Afterwards

Let your child handle the change on a real small purchase.
