Ray's New Primary Arithmetic · Lesson LXII · Unit 6: Division
62. Review of division, and chains with dividing
Goal: Your child answers mixed division facts and works chains that end in dividing.
You'll need
- A slate, small whiteboard or paper and pencil
What's in the book
A table of mixed facts to state ("2 is contained in 4 two times"), then chains such as "How many are 10 and 4, less 8, multiplied by 3, divided by 9?" (worked: 14, 6, 18, 2). The lesson runs onto a second page of "add, then divide" questions.
The lesson, step by step
Mixed table
Work through the table in rounds of ten. Put slow facts on cards.
Chains
Work the example aloud: 10 and 4 are 14; 14 less 8 are 6; 6 times 3 is 18; 18 divided by 9 is 2.
Second page
Do the "add, then divide" questions on the next page (use the arrow in the book viewer). Some of them leave a remainder; just say what is left over, or skip them.
Afterwards
Spread over two days.
