  • The book page (it has a picture of geese and ducks)
  • About 20 small counters: dried beans, buttons, pennies or pebbles (the book suggests marbles, beans or pebbles)

What's in the book

A picture of five wild geese and twenty ducks, with questions such as "If twenty ducks were divided into four flocks, each having the same number, how many ducks would there be in each flock?"

  3. How many groups?

Ask: How many groups of 5 can you make from 20? Make them and count the groups.

  4. Book questions

Answer the five questions on the page with counters.

Afterwards

Share snacks out equally at home and ask how many each person gets.
