You'll need

  • A slate, small whiteboard or paper and pencil

What's in the book

A two-page review: first pairs of facts such as "How many are 2 times 5?", then three numbers, such as "How many are 2 times 3 times 3?" (worked: 3 times 3 are 9; 2 times 9 are 18).

The lesson, step by step

  1. First page in short rounds

Ask the facts in rounds of five. Put any slow fact on a card.

  2. Three numbers

Show the worked example: 3 times 3 are 9; 2 times 9 are 18. Then work through the second page.

  3. A times-table square

Optional: fill in a 10 × 10 grid together. Your child will see that the patterns repeat.
