21. Review of addition, and counting by 2s, 3s, 4s and 5s
Goal: Your child answers mixed addition facts quickly and counts on by 2s, 3s, 4s and 5s.

What's in the book
Mixed facts with two and then three numbers, such as "How many are 2 and 2 and 2?", and counting exercises such as "Begin with 1 and count by 2's to 19."
The lesson, step by step
Mixed facts
Ask the two-number facts from the page, out of order. Keep the pace brisk.
Three numbers
Ask: How many are 2 and 2 and 2? Show how to add the first two, then add the third.
Count by 2s
Count together from 2 by 2s to 20, then from 1 by 2s to 19, as the book asks.
Count by 3s, 4s, 5s
Do the other counting exercises on the page. Clap on each number to keep the rhythm.
Afterwards
Counting by 2s, 5s and 10s on walks or in the car.
Tip
Counting by a number is the first step towards the times tables.
