38. Promiscuous exercises in fractions
Goal: Your student chooses the right fraction method for mixed problems, some done mentally.

What's in the book
"Promiscuous" meant mixed: about 50 fraction problems on pages 95 to 98, with printed answers. Problems marked with a star are meant to be done mentally. Pages 97 and 98 were not checked for this guide.

Guided practice
Together, work a starred problem such as:
Divide 51 into two such parts that
(the rest of the problem is on the page). The book's answer is 27 and 24. Reason it out in words first.
Independent practice
Your student works as many as time allows, in order. For each, write in one word what kind of problem it is (reduce, add, multiply, G. C. D...) before solving.
Check
Answers are printed.
Wrap-up
Your student picks the hardest problem of the day and explains the solution to you.
Afterwards
These pages are good review for several days.
Tip
The scan's small printed fractions are often hard to read. Keep the paper book or a clear copy of the page open when your student works the examples.
