33. Pluperfect and future perfect active; perfect infinitive

Goal: Your child forms the pluperfect and future perfect active of any verb whose perfect it knows, and the perfect active infinitive.

What's in the book

The pluperfect ("I had loved") and future perfect ("I shall have loved") of the model verbs, the perfect active infinitive, and thirteen Latin and ten English exercises.

The lesson, step by step

  1. Review

    Give the first three principal parts of dō, videō and mittō.

  2. Pluperfect

    Perfect stem + -eram, -erās, -erat, and so on, just like the pluperfect of sum:

    amāveram, I had loved

    monueram, I had advised

  3. Future perfect

    Perfect stem + -erō, -eris, -erit, -erimus, -eritis, -erint:

    amāverō, I shall have loved

    Remember the third plural ends -erint.

  4. Perfect infinitive

    Section 195: add -isse to the perfect stem.

    amāvisse, to have loved

    fuisse, to have been

  5. Exercises

    Section 196, Exercise I. Two of the lines:

    Habuistī, mōvērunt, mīserant.

    Ubi mōnstrum vīdistis? Id in aquā vīdimus.

    Then Exercise II.

  6. Wrap up

    Your child takes one verb, veniō, through perfect, pluperfect and future perfect in the first person: vēnī, vēneram, vēnerō.

Cepheus will have told the words of the oracle to Perseus. 10. The friends will have departed from Andromeda. 11. The fierce monster had destroyed many homes. 12. Where did you see the monster? We saw it in the water. 13. What will the monster do? The monster will kill Andromeda.
