What's in the book

The future tense with the tense sign -bi-, forms to translate both ways, and the end of the story of Niobe.

The lesson, step by step

  1. Review

    Conjugate amō in the imperfect.

  2. The future

The tense sign of the future in the first two conjugations is -bi-:

amābō, amābis, amābit, amābimus, amābitis, amābunt

monēbō, monēbis, monēbit, monēbimus, monēbitis, monēbunt

The book notes that this is just like erō, the future of sum: -bō, -bis, -bit, -bimus, -bitis, -bunt.

  3. Say it aloud

Chant both verbs. Then do quick switches: you say "I was loving", your child says amābam; you say "I shall love", your child says amābō.

  4. Exercises

Section 139, Exercise I. Two of the lines:

    Movēbitis, laudābis, arābō.

    Nārrābimus, monēbis, vidēbunt.

    Then Exercise II.

  5. Vocabulary and story

Learn the special vocabulary (verbum, word; sedeō, sit; volō, fly; ego, I). Then read "Niobe and her Children (Concluded)" in section 140. The book asks you to look up a few names in the general vocabulary at the back.

  6. Wrap up

Your child tells the whole Niobe story in English, in their own words.
