Thanking Your Host

Before you leave a visit, find the grown-up and say "Thank you for having me."

Not started Jump to practice

A visit ends with goodbye. There is one more thing a good guest says before leaving.

Thanking the grown-up host.

Key idea

Before you leave a visit, find the grown-up and say “Thank you for having me.”

Why it works

The grown-up host invited you, made snacks, and watched over you. A thank-you tells them you noticed.

If you went to a birthday party, you can say, “Thank you for the party!” If you slept over, you can say, “Thank you for having me over.”

Worked example: Let's practice

Ruby's birthday party at Ruby's house is over. What can Leo say before he leaves?
  1. Ruby's family gave the party.
  2. Leo finds Ruby's mom or dad.
  3. He thanks them and says goodbye to Ruby.

Answer: “Thank you for having me! Happy birthday, Ruby!”

Put the steps in order.

Common mistake

Thanking the friend but forgetting the grown-up who hosted. The parent made the playdate happen too.
For the grown-up. Arrive a minute early at pickup so your child has time to find the host. In the car, say how proud you are when they remember on their own.
