At the Doctor's Office

At the doctor's office, wait calmly, answer the doctor's questions, and say thank you when the visit is over.

Not started Jump to practice

The doctor's office is a quiet place where people help us stay healthy. Manners help there too.

Answering the doctor's questions.

Key idea

At the doctor's office: wait calmly, answer the doctor's questions, and say thank you when the visit is over.

Why it works

Answering helps the doctor and nurse take care of us. Waiting calmly is kind to the other people who are waiting.

Doctors and nurses are there to help. It is okay to say, “I'm scared.” They hear that a lot, and they will explain what they are doing.

Worked example: Let's practice

The visit with Dr. Bell is over. What does Hana say?
  1. Dr. Bell helped Hana today.
  2. Hana looks at her.
  3. She says thank you.

Answer: “Thank you, Dr. Bell!”

Common mistake

Hiding or refusing to talk to the doctor or nurse. It is fine to feel nervous. Your grown-up stays with you and can help answer.
For the grown-up. Play doctor at home with a toy kit, taking turns. Tell your child what will happen at the visit in simple, honest words, and bring a favorite book for the waiting room.
